Ray: The aftermath of DC KO has begun, and the Justice League might be about to get even bigger – if the team members can get on the same page. Mark Waid has done a great job of capturing just what a large-scale event this was, with the average person viewing it as a full-on end of the world event. And now, just as quickly as it began, the world is knitting itself back together and people are forced to figure out what comes next. The heroes who participated in the tournament return from the void – minus Superman, potentially with new superpowers, and each with a unique vision that tells them what they need to do next. And across the world, people try to figure out what to do with this new knowledge. But it seems like some things never change, as Tar Pit and Girder are wrecking a bridge – or so it seems, with the two villains actually doing a rescue and seemingly turning over a new leaf. And so a big question emerges.
The cover and opening segment give away the big idea at the core of this issue – the heroes are considering a massive amnesty for the villains of the DCU, allowing them to join the Justice League under strict supervision. The opening segment finds Giganta and some other surprising faces rescuing a man from a band of terrorists. But while some villains are on board, others might be a trickier prospect. The majority of villains were thrown into the Phantom Zone temporarily to keep the from interfering with the tournament, and now the heroes and Mon-El have to figure out what to do with them. It’s pretty cool to see Waid follow up on the story he built during his weekly Action Comics run a few years back, and the final page shows some big names who might be brought in – including some who might not be a good idea. This is a really promising plotline with a lot of potential so far.
