Ray: It’s the follow-up to a chaotic New Year’s party, and Kara’s life is in shambles. The Kandorian girl she was mentoring, Lesla-Lar, has had to go back to the shrunken city. Her friendships are in flux – and it’s all due to Lena Luthor’s rash experiments, which backfired horribly. As Lena tries to talk to Kara and make up, Kara is preoccupied – with a new guy, known only to Lena and Luna as “Hot Tattoo Guy”. This new-to-town charmer reveals that he grew up in Midvale Orphanage just like Kara did, and even starts hinting that he knows her secret identity – but none of this alarms Kara, who’s already starting to fantasize about a future with him. She seems to be taking leave of her senses – because she is, and only Lena seems to realize that this is because of the giant heart-shaped pink rock the guy is wearing on one of his ears. Yes, sir, Pink Kryptonite is back.

Love season. Via DC Comics.

Now, this bizarre kryptonite had other implications when it was used by Peter David in his Supergirl run ages ago, but here it seems to generate intense feelings of love – because it’s possessed by the spirit of a Kryptonian woman who was ripped away from her loved one when she was killed in the planet’s destruction. Now she’s obsessed with bringing couples together, whether they want to be or not. Kara has to break free from the possession and work with Lena long enough to banish this vengeful spirit – but figuring out where she and Lena stand may be even more difficult. I really like the level of realism Campbell is bringing to the character dynamics in this book, and the title may do one of the best jobs of giving a character a brand new supporting cast out there. But next, it’s back to Kandor – with one of the Superboys in tow, as the next big Super-arc kicks off.
