Ray: One of the most impressive things at DC right now is the way the comics are just casually wrapping up plotlines that have been running for decades. One of those involves John Stewart’s complex relationship with Yrra, better known as Fatality – the sole survivor of Xanshi, the planet he had a hand in destroying back in one of his older solo series. This is John’s defining tragedy, and Fatality has held a personal grudge against him since then. But now, she’s hooked up with the bizarre water-based lifeform Enquar, who is also a sole survivor that blames the Green Lantern for his planet’s destruction – and Enquar wants nothing more than the genocide of all Green Lanterns and their world in return. He’s begun raining death on Oa, creating an all-hands-on-deck situation for the planet. But as Fatality joins him for what’s supposed to be the final assault, she starts to realize that this might be the last thing she wants.

John has never given up on Fatality, and that’s led to some thorny situations for the two of them – including a brief romance. But now, she’s finally ready to take the next step in her journey – and that involves a new color scheme. When it happens, it makes an enormous amount of sense and completes what I think is probably the most well-done and nuanced villain redemption stories I’ve read in a long time. It also continues to set up what I think is a bold new era for the emotional spectrum, with the entities showing up in a bizarre cliffhanger that made me laugh out loud. And as the issue ends, we really start to see the new era take shape for Oa as the Lantern Corps are united for the first time under one banner. Morgan Hampton, ever since he took the helm of this series in full, has done a great job of picking up the complex political issues that are set up by this new era of Green Lantern and expanding on them.
