Stay Warm This Winter With the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket

Apparel Products Reviews

When trying to stay warm in the cold outdoors, you usually either need to wear a very thick jacket or wear several layers. In either case, if you get too warm, you either have to shed layers or you are out of luck. However, there is another option. SURGOAL is a company that makes heated clothing and they have released their latest product, a hardshell heated jacket that lets the wearer adjust the temperature so they stay comfortable with the press of a button. With some very cold weather affecting much of the United States, I was excited to try out this new jacket to see if it could keep me warm and comfortable.

What Is the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket?

The SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket comes with the following:

  • 1 heated jacket
  • 1 lightweight rechargeable battery
  • 1 USB charging cable
  • 1 powerbank adapter cable

The SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket features a waterproof outer layer with DWR coating technology which provides an 8000 mm waterproof rating. This means that it is suitable for heavy rain or moderate snow. According to the manufacturer, this outperforms 95% of the competition. The graphene lining with a soft cotton filling layer helps provide uniform heating. It has seven zippered pockets–two chest pockets, four waist pockets, and a pocket on the left arm. The drawcord in the hem at the waist and Velcro cuffs with thumb loops let you adjust the jacket to fit snuggly and keep out the cold. The windproof hood can be removed and also has a drawcord to adjust the fit. If that were not enough, there are also zippered mesh vents in the underarms for increased breathability and to stay cool and not get overheated.

Before using the heated jacket, you need to connect the included battery pack. There is a pocket on the inside of the right front of the jacket at the bottom. Simply connect the plug from the jacket to the battery pack and then insert it into the pocket. The included USB charging cable can fully charge the battery in only 90 minutes. The battery will last 3 to 3.5 hours on high, 4-5 hours on medium, and 6-7 hours on low. There is also a powerbank adapter cord which allows you to connect any of your powerbanks to the jacket providing even more power. In fact, carrying some extra powerbanks can keep the jacket heating as long as you are wearing it.

Operating the jacket is easy. There are two buttons located on the front right hem. One controls the two ultra-thin carbon fiber heating elements over the belly area while the other button controls the heaters over the back and neck. To turn on the heaters, hold down the button until the button lights up. Then you can cycle through three levels. Red is for high, green for medium, and blue for low. Then to turn off the heaters, hold down the buttons until the light turns off.

Why You Should Get the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket

I have had the opportunity to use the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket for about a week. At first I was not sure if I would like it. However, after I put it on, it was comfortable and I liked the way it fit. Before taking it out in the cold, I charged the battery to full and easily connected it to the jacket. The front zipper is a double zipper so once you have zipped up the jacket, you can use the lower zipper to unzip the bottom part of the coat. I found this useful when sitting. The first time I used the jacket, I purposely did not turn on the heater at first. I waited until I was outside for a few minutes and began to get cold. I then turned the both heaters on high. Within a short amount of time, I could feel the jacket heating up and adjusted the temperature to medium. I like the inclusion of the underarm vents. As I started to get a bit warm in that area, I unzipped the vents so the excess heat could escape. I felt more comfortable.

Not only does the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket work well and keep you warm, it also looks great. I have worn it to work and have received many compliments and asked where it got it and for more details about it. While it did not rain on me while wearing it, I was out in the heavy mist and fog with a big of drizzle and water just beaded on the outer shell. The hood has the same material as the shell with an inside liner. I like that the hood is removeable. Some jackets I have owned had a thin hood that folded into the collar. However the hood on this jacket is nice and study with a drawcord to adjust it to your head. It connects to the jacket with a zipper and some Velcro and can be stored in one of the pockets when not being used.

After wearing the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket and trying out its features, I am very impressed with it. In fact, it is my favorite jacket for cold weather. The jacket is comfortable to wear, looks great, and has plenty of pockets including one on the left sleeve that is perfect for holding a smartphone. In addition to those features, it keeps wind and water out with its hardshell while also keeping the wearer warm with its adjustable heaters. I like that you can control the front and back heaters separately to create your own customized comfort. If you are outside in the cold for work or recreation, then I highly recommend the SURGOAL HardShell Heated Jacket. While it is already affordable at its suggested price, with the current sale including the Amazon coupon and the 10% off code, it is less expensive than similar jackets without the heating function.
