Ray: This series continues to be an utter delight, embracing a level of Silver Age silliness that’s rarely seen in comics anymore. After a tense first arc that saw Kara successfully turn an enemy into an ally and protege, it’s time for the girls to have some much-needed time off – which means Lena is on deck for Superpets babysitting duty. With the family expanding recently, that’s four crazy critters, each with their own superpowers – and it doesn’t take long for them both to abscond. There are two guest artists this issue, each one covering a different duo. First up are Krypto the Super-Dog and Kandy the Super-Rabbit, Lesla’s pet bunny who takes his role as Supergirl’s archnemesis very seriously. But as the little bun continues to scheme against Krypto, the two of them get pulled into heroic feats, save some kids, and Krypto proves himself a good friend to Kandy – leading the fuzzball to put revenge on the back burner.

And while these two have fun, things are distinctly more chaotic for Streaky and Tinytano, who are on the trail of some strange superpowered kittens. It turns out some ordinary kittens got into the strange substance that showed up in the club last issue, and proceeded to eat their fill. Now flying around town with the powers of a Kryptonian, they’re trying the patience of everyone. While Tinytano wants to prove himself a hero, Streaky is more worried that this will interrupt snack time. The inner dialogue for all these critters is hilarious, and Campbell does a great job of giving them all their distinct voices even if we don’t usually hear them “talk”. The art styles are subtly different between the two segments, but both artists are peak at drawing pets. This issue might be a little more low-key than the last few, but it’s so much fun to watch the chaos unfold – and Campbell ends with a surprising twist cliffhanger.
