Ray: It’s the final chapter of the Starbreaker Supremacy, the high-stakes crossover that saw the Emotional Spectrum seemingly destroyed by the coalition of the cosmic tyrant Starbreaker and…Carol’s ex-fiance, Nathan Broome. Jilted by Carol and filled with rage and sorrow, Nathan summoned a new type of spectrum power and sought to wipe out all emotion from the multiverse. It worked well enough that all of Oa was expected, with only the artificial intelligences being able to resist the tide and recruit people to help them. Now, after a trip beyond the Source Wall, the heroes are ready to take the fight back to Starbreaker – riding on the giant spectrum entities. The visuals here are fantastic, but Starbreaker has a fortified power base and is able to resist the assault – and one by one, the Lanterns and their giant monstrous steeds start falling from the sky.

And so, with the heroes outmanned, this issue comes down to Nathan – who was never a true villain, only a character whose very real grievances were taken and inflated by a cosmic entity he had no idea existed and no chance to control. I did like this turn for the character, but I felt like the speed of the turn, the action he takes, and how soon everything spirals from there were all a little rushed. If he was going to play suck a key role in resolving this crisis, I would have liked him to have more characterization and maybe more interaction with Carol and Hal before he exited the story stage left. However, this crossover does leave some really interesting subplots before it wraps up, including the possible return of one of the most significant Green Lantern villains of all time. Not quite on the level of the quality of the main series’ solo stories, but a solid crossover at the finish line.
