Ray: This wild and wacky series has been a lot of fun so far, pitting characters from shows like Scooby Doo and Steven Universe alongside DC heroes as they fight enemies like the Wicked Witch of the West and Rick Sanchez (with the power of Brainiac). But it’s lacked a strong POV character so far – and that sort of changes this issue, as we find out what Harley and Ivy have been up to. They’ve adopted a new pet – Reindog, an original character from the game who is sort of the Multiversus mascot and also a very, very good boy or girl. Harley has bonded with the strange green pooch and is not giving it up – no matter who comes calling. Joker, who has gained a powerful weapon from the game, is the first, and his reaction to Harley and Ivy living together is very amusing. I was particularly happy to see the game not shy away from the fact that they’re a pretty established couple by now.

But Joker isn’t the only one who wants the dog – who turns out to essentially be a living, fluffy MacGuffin that might be able to neutralize the larger threat pushing the worlds together. Harley goes on the run with the fuzzball, and Superman and Batman are on the chase. This is a fast-paced, action-packed comic chase with some great physical comedy, but when Joker catches up to them, the stakes are raised. The end of this issue brings surprising peril for a major character, but there’s really no danger to any of the headliners, of course. That’s always the trouble with a video game tie-in, of course – we know who’s safe and who isn’t an in this case the answer is probably all the heroes. Bryan Q, Miller is clearly having a blast with this concept – there’s really so much you can do with a comic based on a crossover fighting game, so the best approach is just to embrace the madness and have a lot of fun.
