Ray: The Titans have enough to deal with at the moment, with one of their own being replaced by a demonic infiltrator and working to tear the team apart from within—but now, Amanda Waller is about to make her move on the Tower. A fascinating flashback segment introduces a new villain—who started as a hero. Vandania was an ordinary girl, obsessed with superheroes and desperate to become a member of the Titans. She trained, but saw the opportunity to get an edge by signing up for an experiment under Dr. TO Morrow to gain superpowers. It worked—but her heart couldn’t handle it, she died, and was then resurrected as an android more powerful than she ever was. There’s just one hitch—she has been given false memories, making her think that the Titans have been replaced by impostors. And now, her benefactor and Waller are going to send her to Titans tower—to kill her idols.

Before she gets there, we find out that Dick Grayson has been taking a page from his father’s book—developing an alternate personality for himself. This one isn’t nearly as out of control like Zur is, but he’s a sounding board for Dick to explore his questions about Raven. This is a fascinating development—how do you investigate someone who’s an empath and knows when you don’t trust them? The sense of paranoia around Raven right now is a great element, but things hit a fever pitch when the tower is invaded and Vandania proves just how easily she can tear her way through the team. This does feel a little like a tie-in to Absolute Power before that event starts—not a surprise, and this team has had quite a few of those—but Taylor has done great work with these characters, and every new dark twist that threatens to unravel them works very well to up the tension.
