Ray: We’re in a sort of bridge right now between two huge events, as the Titans have saved the world during Beast World, but now the dual threats of Amanda Waller and Trigon are looming. The rescue in Key West seems to have repaired the Titans’ reputation a bit—with the glaring exception of Beast Boy, who is withdrawing from the team and not sure he wants to continue being a hero. And of course, one of the Titans isn’t who they appear to be—Raven has been taken over by her demonic self and is playing a long-game with the Titans, gaining their trust and making her move in concert with her father. Trigon, doing his best Fire Lord Ozai impression, seems to be taking great joy in playing his younger son Trilogy against Raven as he makes his move on Earth. But to do so, he’ll need an insider on the planet—and he’s chosen Amanda Waller as his entry point.

This leads to a hilarious scene between Peacemaker and a new recruit as they enter to see a demon conversing with Waller, but it also makes me wonder just how far Waller is willing to go to gain control. We’ve known she’s gone off the deep end, but potentially cutting a deal with a literal devil makes me wonder if she’s even in control of her actions here. Waller, of course, is building towards her takeover of the DCU in Absolute Power by Mark Waid, but I’m wondering if what Trigon is building towards is even bigger. After all, how often do you see the Quintessence get involved in trying to warn people? They’re basically the equivalent of The Watcher at the competition, but her they seem to think the fate of Earth itself hangs in the balance. But Raven sees them coming—and the last half of the issue makes clear just how terrifying this new version of the character truly is, as she’s already winning—and her team doesn’t even know it.
