The HyperX Double-Shot PBT Keycaps are an upgrade to an already high-quality HyperX keyboard you may own. I myself use a HyperX Alloy FPS RGB, which I have previously reviewed. I love my Alloy FPS and felt that it could not be improved… until HyperX sent me these new Keycaps. At first, I was very skeptical because I felt that keycaps would not make much of a difference in my enjoyment of the keyboard. Thankfully, I was wrong.
The HyperX Double-Shot PBT Keycaps in white comes in a very diminutive box. I was worried that I did not get an entire set, until I saw that they had vacuum sealed the keycaps, which were quite an ingenious form of packaging. The box did have a complete set of keycaps, along with a tool for pulling the caps out.
Installation with the provided cap tool was so easy that I thought I was doing it wrong. It really is just a matter of depressing the tool over the key you want to change and giving it a gentle tug. Then, you take the corresponding new keycap and press it easily into place, and you are done. The total key replacement took me around 10 minutes going at a slow pace.
Testing and Final Thoughts
Once I had all of the keys punched in and working the first thing I noticed was how much more color was coming through than previous. I really get the value of those LEDs now, and having certain key setups pre-loaded for things like games and word processing really shines through. As I began to type out an article, the keys also felt very good and comfortable. The benefit here is really just to get the most out of your lighting schemes, and I think HyperX has done that with the HyperX Double-Shot PBT Keycaps in white. Perhaps the only downside of this upgrade is that it is going to cost you an extra $19.99. But if you truly love your keyboard, this is a small price to pay.
