I was way into CATS as a teenager. I wore out my cassette of the cast recording. I saw the play at least twice. Maybe more. I read T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats multiple times. I could recite the poems by heart. I didn’t even mind that the play tries desperately to graft a story onto what was just a collection of barely connected poems.
So you can imagine how big my eyes got when I saw that a movie is coming out and there’s now a teaser for it!
The teaser doesn’t show any movie footage. But it does show a lovely, star-studded cast rehearsing and talking about the larger-than-life set and the CGI that will put fur and color directly onto the cast’s bodies (probably an improvement over the unitards I remember). A comment about CATS Friday suggests an actual trailer may drop soon. Until then, you can find me belting out Skimbleshanks at the top of my lungs.
