Epic! is an all-you-can-read e-book subscription service for kids under 12 years old. Think e-book Netflix tailored for youngsters.

With 15,000 high-quality children’s books and educational videos on store, it is the infinite digital library that can never run out of books. As with Netflix, you may find it hard to choose from, especially since you don’t really know what you are looking for or what you will find. Some classic books are only available as Read-Alongs and there are really lots of videos available, which may distract your young reader from the task at hand.

However, the selection is superb. There are lots of non-fiction books and even a small Spanish section (hurrah for that).

You can make a profile for your kid and it will show how many books he or she has read so far, what kind of subjects they have enjoyed, and it will display other titles accordingly. We are deep into dinosaurs and insects with my five-year old.

They also have profiles for parents and educators, and a vast array of subjects ranging from “Every Day” themes to History and Fantasy. I found it difficult to come back to a title that caught my eye, but it may get easier to navigate once you get the hang of it. I know for certain my kiddo has no such problem.

I think the subscription is aimed to young kids because those are the easier books to read on a screen: an entire book can be defined as a couple of pages long, with big illustrations and few lines on each page. As your kid’s reading ability improves, this kind of books will lose their appeal and your tween may want bigger challenges, deeper plots and longer stories. That is of course, fine. A wide array of books is like a wide array of fruits: they need all of them.
