Sideshow Collectibles is world renown for collectible statues and figures. They imagine and recreate geek culture’s cherished icons with the highest level of artistry. Through the years, Sideshow has showcased their artistry with photographic volumes. These books are created with the Sideshow excellence found in their figures and statues. Their latest volume, ‘Capturing Archetypes, Volume 2: A Gallery of Heroes and Villains from Batman to Vader’, is no exception.
Hardbound and 226 pages, it’s a feasts for the eyes. There’s a range of featured archetypes including Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, Predator, and Alien. Characters are photographed with beautiful composition. Close-ups display each figure’s extraordinary attention to detail. In some cases, you have to remind yourself that these are sculptures and not actual people. Each composition has an unobtrusive quote from either the character or the artist. It’s a nice addition that shows the inspiration behind the art.
If you’re a fan of Sideshow Collectibles, a fan of movies, or a fan of comics, this is an excellent addition to your collection. I’ve spent a lot of time meandering through this volume. It’s been worth every minute. ‘Capturing Archetypes, Volume 2: A Gallery of Heroes and Villains from Batman to Vader’ is available from Amazon. Many thanks to Insight Editions for the review copy.
