Lando Calrissian Returns for Star Wars: Rebels

This show is getting better all the time! Star Wars: Rebels has again proven its devotion to Star Wars fandom by announcing that the selfishly affable Lando Calrissian will be showing up for the show’s ninth and next episode, “Idiot’s Array,” on Monday, January 19th. As the video above shows, Billy Dee Williams is returning to the Star Wars Universe to voice his most famous character with that same suave demeanor that has made him a fan favorite.

Early speculation predicted that Williams would show up in the forthcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, but perhaps the rumors of his return were simply misinterpreted from his Rebels appearance. This isn’t the first time Williams voiced the character, with Lando also briefly appearing in last year’s The LEGO Movie.

2015 is going to be a big year for Star Wars, with the new film, a new comics series from Marvel and a barrage of new merchandising. Rebels has started the year, a year I am now unofficially calling the year of the Force, with a celebration of old-school Star Wars love. In the first episode of 2015, showrunner David Filoni brought back another famous character and the actor responsible, with legendary puppeteer Frank Oz reprising the quizzically gruff voice of Yoda. I wrote a recent story here on GeekDad outlining the reasons I think you should be watching Rebels. I’m pleased to report those reasons continue to grow.

Catch episode nine of Star Wars: Rebels on Disney XD, Monday, January 19th at 9/8c.
