Powerless, Super, and Villainous by Matthew Cody

I’m a fan of Matthew Cody’s Super trilogy, a series of middle-grade books about Noble’s Green, a small town in which all the kids have superpowers—except Daniel, who moved to town recently. In the first book, Powerless, we discover that all of the kids lose their abilities (and even their memories of them) when they turn thirteen. Daniel wants to know why, and uncovers something sinister. In Super, Daniel inexplicably gains powers, causing his friends to mistrust him. Villainous was just released this fall and I haven’t gotten a chance to read it yet, but it promises to be another exciting read.

To celebrate the release, Cody and Random House are running a contest. Kids can submit stories about a real-life hero in 500 words or less. The prize? Cody will write you into a short story as a super, plus you get signed copies of his books. The contest runs until December 20, 2014, with winners picked in January.

Visit the Random House website for more details about the contest.
