LeakyCon 2013 Hits Portland Tomorrow

LeakyConAttention, Muggles: If you’re in or near Portland, Oregon, this weekend, you should check out LeakyCon, a Harry Potter fan convention now in its third year. Any age can attend, but the recommended minimum age is 11, the age Harry himself was when he started at Hogwarts.

Past conferences were held in Chicago and Orlando, but this year there are actually two LeakyCons—Portland, Oregon (June 27-30) and London (August 8-11). Registration is $160 for the Portland convention. The con will feature a few actors from the movies plus various other folks, and there’s a big focus on wizard rock, too. Oh, and tomorrow there’s even a 5K run to kick things off.

For fans of YA literature, there’s also a LeakyLit track that’s meant to be a con-within-a-con with a lot of young adult authors. (Unfortunately tickets for the Lit Track are already sold out.) I also just heard that Kazu Kibuishi’s new cover for Book 3 will be unveiled at the opening ceremonies; I’m excited to see his take on The Prisoner of Azkaban.

I’ve been invited to attend, and though I’ll only be able to get to a few bits and pieces I’ll report back after the weekend.
