Spoonflower, the super-cool company that will print your original designs on fabric (I use them to make my quilt labels), has teamed up with Robert Kaufman Fabrics for the 2013 edition of their Fabric8 competition.

If you’ve ever followed their Fabric of the Week contests, you know there are some incredible undiscovered designers in that community–and you can often buy their fabrics straight from the site. (I once bought the coolest TARDIS fabric.) For this Fabric8 competition, aspiring fabric designers were given the opportunity to submit a mini collection of their designs for a chance to win a contract with Robert Kaufman. Online voting will decide the winner. Here are the details from the contest site:

Spoonflower and Robert Kaufman Fabrics are thrilled to announce that the Fabric8 Contest theme for 2013 will be Geek Chic. Fabric8 is an annual contest to discover eight bold, modern fabric collections from designers the world has yet to hear from. The ultimate winner of each year’s contest gets a chance to start a new career as a professional textile designer by releasing a collection through Robert Kaufman.

It’s an all-female panel of talented finalists this year, and they have come up with some awesome collections. Voting is now open here, and the winner will be announced on Thursday, June 13th.

  1. That was fun. I voted and cannot wait to see which collection wins. Thanks, Jackie!

  2. I always forget to make my designs in time for the contest deadline! I was totally going to do binary moustaches. I think that still needs to be out there in the fabric world.
