The Chieftains Perform Moondance With Commander Chris Hadfield Live From the ISS

Reading Time: 1 minute

On February 15, 2013, The Chieftains performed in Houston, Texas. One of the songs they performed was Moondance. To make this performance of Moondance special, Canadian astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield performed with them, live, from the International Space Station (ISS).

We live in an amazing and awe-inspiring time. A time when technology is such that humans can now perform music concerts from space. A time when technology also allows for people here on Earth to collaborate, live, with someone who is orbiting the planet. There are so many things that need to happen in order for this to work. This is the era in which we live.

We are living in the future!

This is not the first collaboration Commander Hadfield has done from the ISS. Last month, Commander Hadfield wrote and performed a song with The Barenaked Ladies called I.S.S. (Is Somebody Singing). The song was commissioned from CBCMusic.ca and The Coalition for Music Education with the Canadian Space Agency to celebrate music education in schools across Canada.

On Wednesday, March 13, 2013, Commander Chris Hadfield will take over as the Space Station Commander, becoming the first Canadian Commander of the ISS. He will be returning home on May 14, 2013.

It gives me a certain amount of pride to see a fellow Canadian in such a position, and watch as the world falls in love with him.
