Book lovers, get ready! It’s almost time for the annual Wordstock Festival in Portland, Oregon, and as usual they’ve got a fantastic line-up. The book festival will take place October 11-14, and registration opens this week. This year they’re debuting a Young Adult stage featuring David Levithan (co-author of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist and Will Grayson, Will Grayson). They’ve also rebranded the kids’ area Little Word, making it more of a Wordstock for children with lots of activities, readings, and a “rumpus area.” The 2012 book pick is Erin Morgenstern’s The Night Circus — alas, I confess I’ve got a copy but haven’t gotten to read it yet — so if you read it before the festival you’ll be set for the community-wide book discussions.

Finally, if you’ve got the time, you should sign up to volunteer at the festival. You’ll get to help run the show, maybe even escort some authors!

Sadly, I’ll be missing the show myself because I’m out of town, but Erik Wecks will be covering Wordstock in my place. For more information about the show, visit the Wordstock Festival website.
