Fans of geeky hip-hopper mc chris will likely recognize the song featured in this new 2012 Honda Civic television spot. (It is, for the uninitiated, “Hoodie Ninja” from his 2008 release mc chris is dead.) In a world where major labels still struggle against obsolescence, it’s interesting to see a dyed-in-the-wool indie artist parlay his strong fan appeal (cultivated over a decade of eclectic releases and electric live shows) and voice recognition (compliments of his time with Williams Street Studios/Adult Swim) into further mainstream success.
