New Chiptune Video to Premiere on MTV

Geek Culture

No matter how many times there is legitimate bleed-over between geeky music and the mainstream media, I am still slightly amazed with each incursion. Whether it’s MC Frontalot on G4, MC Lars on SPIN.com or Nerdapalooza coverage in a Eurasian incarnation of Billboard, it always strikes me as mildly fantastical. The latest such occurrence is no exception.

It has recently been announced that 20-year-old Oliver Hindle, the UK electro-pop artist known as Superpowerless, has been named the winner of the first MTV Vodaphone Fast Track competition. As the winner, Superpowerless was afforded the chance to re-record his single "Wasted My Time" in-studio with DJ/Producer Andy Chatterley as well as the chance to shoot a related music video with director Luc Janin.

The track will be available for download from Vodaphone Live on March 23rd, the same day its video premieres on MTV. You, however, can enjoy all the chiptune-y goodness right now thanks to this handy embed. It’s an amazing piece that puts a number of classic 8-bit conventions to good effect in a real world setting, and, on the subject of degrees-of-separation, it also features my pal MisterB (who just so happens to be Supe’s regular collaborator) as "Player 2."
