HBO Kills “Preacher” Series

Comic book movies received another knock when HBO killed the planned series "Preacher" on Tuesday. The show was to be based on the Garth Ennis & Steve Dillon-penned comic book series.

For almost two years, HBO had been wrestling with how to bring "Preacher" to the pay channel. The early details sounded great, with plans to turn each book into its own hour in the series. Mark Steven Johnson was attached to the project, but he is the guy who brought Ghost Rider, Elektra & Daredevil to the screen, so this news may come with a bit of a silver lining.

As time went on, things started to look even uglier. New content was reportedly being added. Personnel involved with the project started changing over. And now HBO has confessed to cold feet considering the controversial subject matter and announced they were dropping the project.

Ultimately, Preacher may find another home and whatever movie or series that comes from it may be better for the journey. Only time will tell. For now, Jesse Custer is destined to wander once more.
