Some of the upcoming events may be of particular interest to geek dads/moms and their geeklets:
- Guthrie Centennial Wild West Show, with its trick roping, horse-drawn hitch teams, and other western-style fun on Saturday October 13th
- Oklahoma Centennial Parade in Oklahoma City, for every child that loves a parade (and the many parents that love them too), Sunday October 14th
- Tulsa Oktoberfest 2007, one of the best German food festivals in the US with lots of activities for families and kids, Thursday October 18th to Sunday October 21st
- Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History "Collecting Oklahoma" exhibit in Norman, open through January 21st, 2008
My child loved the Natural History museum’s dinosaurs and the hands-on children’s Discovery Room when we visited recently, and we’ll be taking in several of the other events as possible in the coming weeks. If you’re anywhere near (or passing through) Oklahoma in the next couple of months, consider sharing the centennial fun with your family, too.
Here’s a teaser video of many of the landscapes, people, and activities that make Oklahoma what it is, set to the state’s centennial song "Oklahoma Rising":
