Continue ReadingVulcan Events — Away Mission Orlando 2012 was another great time spent with friends and spreading the good word of the dark and light sides of the force. Avery Brooks was the headliner for the event and while I’m a fan of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, my excitement was in getting to meet Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris, Star Trek: Voyager and getting a picture of Dirk Benedict (Starbuck, Battlestar Galactica) for my mom.

The release of this new companion book gives those people something to keep busy with until the Earl and Countess of Grantham return to share the drama of their lives. Filled with pictures, historical context and behind-the-scenes tidbits, this is a book fans will love.
Continue ReadingI said it once and I’ll say it again…Ben 10: Ominverse is pure awesomeness and this Saturday we get to meet a brand new alien in Ben’s arsenal. This episode centers around the omnitrix and Ben’s lack of being able to fight without it (do you see where I’m going with this?). The inevitable happens and Ben is forced to fight without the help of alien tech. The episode has the usually humor, banter and lesson that both Rook and Ben must learn in the end.
I was given the opportunity to speak with the voice of Ben Tennyson, Yuri Lowenthal about his role on the series and his career so far. On top of being on Ben 10, he’s also been on some of my favorite shows including Young Justice (La’gaan / Lagoon Boy / Cameron Mahkent), Legion of Super Heroes (Superman / Kell-El / Senator Tolay) and Wolverine and the X-Men (Iceman, Bobby Drake).
Continue ReadingIn my high school biology class, there was a fake skeleton that hung on a hook on a little rolling rack. The teacher rolled this skeleton around our little lab to show us stuff. Bones, mostly, it being a skeleton and all. Skeletons are cool and CyberInkOnline owner Jean Griffin has created a line of skeleton-themed products that prove the point.
Continue ReadingThe single-serve coffee maker market offers a lot of options, many that are well-established and have been around for years. Although there have been Starbucks coffee pods for some of these brewers, this is the first time Starbucks has actually marketed its own brewer with its own pods. Was it worth the wait?
Continue ReadingThis morning, after all the hype I had been talking up on GeekMom about it, I had the chance to see Lincoln with my own eyes. It was totally worth it!
Like I said earlier this week, this is NOT a war movie with scenes of gore and violence (there is but one brief scene), nor is it an overt film about Lincoln’s specific relationships with any particular person. It’s a glimpse into Lincoln’s last four months of life, both public and private, covering his relationships on duty and off. You will walk out of the theater with a much better understanding of a national leader who had the burden of over a half million casualties of war under his watch.

It celebrates the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the armed forces. The Night Santa Got Lost: How NORAD Saved Christmas is a must for any military families with young children on your holiday shopping lists! We were pleased to have a sneak peek at this book just in time for this holiday season.

Continue ReadingIn Sara’s kitchen, you choose a recipe, (and they are ACTUAL recipes that you can cook IRL) and get started pulling out tools and ingredients. There’s a helping hand that will guide you through what you need to do, or you can choose to challenge yourself by noodling around on your own and figuring things out for yourself. You can view it as a way of covertly training your children to cook wonderful gourmet meals for you, while you lounge around the house reading food magazines, tearing out recipes for them to try.
Continue ReadingMuch as I don’t like to admit it, Spil has done extensive research into the mind of the tween girl, as well as the mothers of tween girls. The age range listed was roughly around 8 to 9 years old, and it basically said that at this age, young girls are dreaming about their “first kiss.” In my head, I had a knee-jerk reaction of NO WAY TOO YOUNG ARE YOU KIDDING. And the next thing they said was that their studies showed that the mothers of tween girls HATE this fact.

I’m planning to shift my focus now from the theoretical side of photography to the practical components of taking magnificent photos. This snapshot will focus on creating the perfectly exposed image and the three most important elements in determining exposure. So pick up your camera, its time to play.
