Ray: Jeremy Adams’ books are always packed with plots, and this one is no exception – which is good, because it has an entire cosmos to play with. The current main threat is The Sorrow, aka Nathan – Carol Ferris’ ex-fiancee. Consumed with his grief and anger over being left at the altar, he’s been consumed with negative emotions and taken over by a new ring that allows him to summon people’s worst emotions. He’s a threat in and of itself, but maybe a less direct one – which is why he’s teamed with Starbreaker, the powerful energy vampire who has been plaguing the Justice League for years. The two of them are easily able to handle the team of Hal, Kyle, Superboy, and Odyssey, although Hal is able to get them away – but not before Odyssey is pushed into a breakdown and we get some more hints of her backstory. But for now, it’s back to Earth – where a whole new plot will kick off.

Sorrow awaits. Via DC Comics.

On Earth, Hal is able to reunite with Carol Ferris, who has been very busy with her new status as a Justice League member. While Jessica Cruz lays out a plan to reconstruct the central power batteries – all of them – and Superboy and Odyssey get closer, Hal pulls Carol into a battle with a new supervillain known as Mind-Bomber. But when they neutralize him, the DEO shows up to get him into custody – along with their new liaison, Hector Hammond. Hammond lost his abilities a while back and is seemingly on the side of law and order now, but Hal is instantly suspicious, and he and Carol bring in Dove for an assist in the investigation. We find out the truth about what Hammond is up to pretty quickly, and it’s a nasty jump scare on the final page, but overall, this continues to be a very strong book. It’s rare to see a GL run that’s as strong on Earth as it is off it.
