‘Munchkin Big Box’ Hits BackerKit

Featured Gaming Kickstarter Tabletop Games

The fan-favorite satirical board game Munchkin has a new product on the line, and it’s a BIG one. Funding through Backerkit, the Munchkin Big Box doubled its funding goal in the first 15 minutes of the campaign, promising plenty of room for stretch goals and guaranteeing all backers will have a funded project in the end. Read on to learn more about what is included, how much it costs, and more!

What’s in the Box?

Everybody wants to know what they are getting, and the team at Steve Jackson Games has done a pretty good job offering clarity on what is included when one backs the project.

The Box

The first feature of the Big Box is the box itself. It includes an organizer with plenty of space, allowing collectors of Munchkin to store 2,000 cards, along with other boards, standees, and accessories from the Big Box and other Munchkin products. Finally, you can compress that wall of boxes down to a less bulky but equally heavy compact storage unit.

New Rulebook

The need for rulebooks is a struggle for many collectors. Thankfully, the Big Box comes with a consolidated rulebook which helps collect rules from decades of Munchkin games into one rulebook. This makes using the storage box more useful, as keeping 20+ rulebooks in the case would have prevented storing the cards in it.

Munchkin Cards

Nobody wants a Munchkin product without new cards, so they’ve gone overboard to ensure you get your value’s worth in cards. There are 319 Doors, 205 Treasures, 60 Sidequests, 40 Dungeons, 30 Bosses, and a set of card dividers to help you keep everything sorted.

Accessories

The included accessories also merit a mention. While not necessary to play the game, and also not changing the actual game mechanics, these accessories offer options that aren’t available in all versions of Munchkin. Standees, Kill-o-Meters, dice, and two game boards all allow you to customize how you play Munchkin at home and with friends.

Cosmetic Trinkets

There are even a few cosmetic options included. These aren’t useful for playing the game but let you take your inner Munchkin out for a stroll. A bookmark, character pin (Spyke from the cover of the Munchkin Big Box), and a sheet of stickers allow you to wear or carry your Munchkin pride all over the world as you plot your domination of all that unfolds before you.

What Does It Cost?

The options are very simple. You can donate a dollar, or you can buy the game for $125. The first 1750 backers to select the early bird option will receive a massive D10 for their early participation. Brick-and-mortar stores can also back the project for $125 but get two games for the price of one. This option requires verification of a brick-and-mortar shop but allows FLGSs to get their hands on the product for their shops.

Stretch Goals?

We have not seen any stretch goals announced, but Steve Jackson Games has stated that they are prepared to start rolling them out once the campaign is funded. Since it is already funded, you can keep an eye on the campaign page to watch for interesting stretch goals, if that’s a decision factor for you.

TL;DR

The Munchkin Big Box is a crowdfunding project live right now on Backerkit. The primary value comes in the form of storage options, new accessories, and new cards. You can hop over to their page to see stretch goals as they go live and to check if any changes have been made as well.
