Review — ‘Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow’ #5 — An Unexpected Ending

Comic Books Entertainment Reviews

Usagi Yojimbo: Ice and Snow #5 | Writer, Artist, Cover Artist: Stan Sakai | Colorist: Emii Fujii

Usagi and his nephew Yukichi have escaped Lady Ona, the evil Jei, and a frozen river, and managed to get out with their lives.

You would have thought that was the end of the story arc, but sometimes Stan likes to add a surprise ending, and this is one of them!

The two bunnies receive the hospitality of poor peasants, and soon discover that some of the henchmen from Jei’s party have stumbled onto the same village. Immediately, they set out to confront them, warning them not to attack or rob the villagers.

Once that is settled, they decided to stay another night…

I don′t want to spoil the refreshing development, but let us just say that angry yokai from the snowy mountains come in many forms. In a winter landscape so laden with snow as Japan, there is no wonder there are so many.

Celebrating Forty Years of Usagi Yojimbo

The year 2024 marks the 40th anniversary of Usagi Yojimbo, my favorite samurai bunny. There will be tons of activities and hopefully some special volumes in the works, so stay tuned on Sakai’s Web Page for more info!
