Ray: Spinning out of the recent Green Lantern backup, this new series both serves as a spinoff of sorts of the Super-Sons brand, as well as likely a farewell to DC for Pete Tomasi (who is heading off to showrun the family-friendly line at Ghost Machine). It picks up with the story of Sinson, the lost son of Sinestron (or so he thinks), who successfully overthrew his cruel master in the last issue and has now assembled a team of fellow refugees as they plan to head for Korugar—robbing everyone they can along the way. There’s just one problem—Sinson grew up a thief and a renegade, and that’s the only thing he knows. His new team is friendlier, but it’s still instilling toxic behavior in his new followers. They’re quickly turning into pirates of their own, and they’re on the search for a bigger spaceship that will take them from a tin bucket to a sleek ship that will get them to Korugar.

They find it—in the Kryptonian battleship piloted by Lor-Zod, recently exiled from New Krypton by his father in the premiere issue of Kneel Before Zod. Lor-Zod is filled with resentment, arguing with a hologram of his mother, and only knows one thing as well—conquest. He’s in search of a new planet to take over, and soon finds it—just as Sinson and his crew set sights on his ship. The two sons of infamous villains don’t have a good intro to each other, which makes me wonder what this series will actually have in store for them. Both characters are intriguing rogues, in different ways, but they’re also kids who have only had toxic influences in their lives. I could easily see this being the start of a redemption arc for the two of them—but I could also see them making themselves much worse with each other’s help. And of course, the big question—are Jon and Damian going to show up to fight them?
