One of the big stories out of Gen Con 2019 took everyone by surprise.

During Fantasy Flight Games’ Presentation, FFG’s Head of Studio Andrew Navaro brought his friend, William Schick, up to reveal a new game coming from Atomic Mass Studios this fall: The Marvel Crisis Protocol Miniatures Game.

What Is Marvel Crisis Protocol?

According to the rulebook, currently available online to read: “Crisis Protocol is a tactical miniatures game for two players in which handpicked squads of Marvel characters clash over a customized battlefield and attempt to be the first to complete their mission objectives.” It is designed by Atomic Mass Games’ William Schick and Will Pagani, and will be distributed by Asmodee.

The miniatures and terrain are in 40mm scale (as opposed to the more traditional 28mm for skirmish miniatures games) and are made out of unpainted multi-piece hard plastic on sprues. The highly detailed sculpts are spearheaded by Atomic Mass Games’ Dallas Kemp.

Additional character packs shown at Gen Con include the Miles Morales Spider-Man and Ghost Spider, Hulk, M.O.D.O.K., Star-Lord, Rocket Racoon and Groot, Gamora and Nebula, Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight, Thor and Valkyrie, Loki and Hela, Black Panther and Killmonger, Okoye and Shuri, Vision and Winter Soldier, Venom, and an NYC Terrain pack. The character packs will range in price from $24.99 to $39.99 depending on size and content.

In the game, you’ll be able to mix and match heroes and villains as you see fit to build your teams, or can choose to recreate teams of characters from Marvel Comics like The Avengers or The Guardians of the Galaxy, receiving minor bonuses for those characters sharing an affiliation.
