The Pi Day of the Century

This Saturday is March 14th. For those of us who live in the United States the date is written as 3/14 or 3.14, which also happens to be the first digits of the mathematical constant known as Pi. Here, Saturday is Pi day, but this year things are even a little more special because Pi’s next digits after 3.14 happen to be 15. So in the 15th year of the twenty-first century, we get to celebrate Pi day with a little more specificity than in any other year for the next 100.

NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory is celebrating with a whole set of real science math problems that revolve around Pi. The problems are designed for students between grade four and grade eleven. How many can you answer? JPL is inviting everyone to gather online to share their answers to the questions this Saturday. To share your answers tweet to @NASAJPL_Edu and use the hashtag #PiDay.

Head on over to the JPL education site to find out more.
