Live Online Q&A for COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey Tonight

Tonight in 10 cities across the US, a few special fans will have the opportunity to watch the premiere episode of the new science miniseries COSMOS: A Spacetime Odyssey tonight. Even if you aren’t one of those select few, you can still tune in online to watch a live Q&A with the creators and host of COSMOS at 9-10pm EST at COSMOSonTV.com. Questions can be submitted in advance on Facebook page and via Twitter using #cosmoslive.

COSMOS host and science personality Neil deGrasse Tyson, writer/executive producer/director Ann Druyan (widow of Carl Sagan), and executive producer Seth MacFarlane (yes, he created Family Guy and sings) will talk about their show and what to expect from the science-themed, special effects-heavy series.

The new COSMOS is a modern incarnation of the epic science miniseries that aired in the 1980’s with charismatic host Carl Sagan. For those that somehow don’t know Sagan, he directed the Voyager Golden Record project, co-founded The Planetary Society, and wrote the book Contact. Many scientist and engineers today credit Sagan with inspiring them to study a STEM subject.

Regardless of whether you are looking forward to the new COSMOS or lamenting it as “yet another remake,” it will air on FOX. This means it will be in front of a lot of people who may not often talk about science. Be ready to engage your crusty office mate or wacky in-laws in some deep discussions of space, time, and life itself. Sure, you can point out where the visualizations fail to stay absolutely true to science (as they always do) OR you can dive into a conversation that may change their worldview to better appreciate the process of scientific inquiry. I urge you to choose the latter.

COSMOS will air Sundays (9:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX and Mondays (10:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on National Geographic Channel and, eventually, on Hulu.
