18 (9 + 9) Things To Do on 9/9/09

It is surprising how many things revolve around the number nine these days. Perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised, being 2009 and all, but a lot of it was indeed coincidence. Here are a few things to do today that help you revel in the number 9 as we near the end of the single digit years.

1. Listen to 99 Luftballons.
2. Listen to Revolution 9 (Number 9… Number 9).
3. Watch the Bare Naked Ladies video for “7 8 9“.
4. Be one of the first to rock to Beatles Rock Band.
5. Solve 9 Sudoku puzzles.
6. Have a 99! (Ice cream with a special Flake bar.)
7. See the movie 9 (and anticipate seeing Nine).
8. See the movie District 9.
9. See the movie The Nines.
10. Watch the movies 9 1/2 Weeks and Fellini’s 8 1/2. They’ll average out.
11. Watch 9 episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
12. Watch reruns of The Nine.
13. Be nice to the UK emergency services (999 is the emergency number in the UK).
14. Respond to all yes/no questions with “Nein!”
15. Learn all you can about the Supreme Court and its 9 Justices.
16. Watch a baseball game! The number 9 abounds here. There are 9 innings (before extra innings), 9 players at a time on a team, 27 (9+9+9) outs per team in a regular-length game and 9 was the uniform number of Ted Williams.
17. Mensa not enough for you? Join the Triple Nine Society.
18. Sign lots of things that require a date. Revel in the three single digits that you write, since it is the last time in our lifetimes that we will be able to do so.
