Procrastination Destination: Pure Escape

As we head towards the end of summer and beginning of school for our kids, which can range from watching your child take the bus for the first time, leaping into homeschooling, or sending your big/little one off to college, let’s just take a breather. Here are some ways to distract yourself from whatever is coming your way. You’re welcome.

First, let me introduce you to Hiatus Kaiyote, a musician my daughter introduced me to this summer. Very cool beats, sometimes oddness, and geeky references thrown in here and there. Atari is a good one. But Laputa is my favorite with references to Miyasaki.

Heheheheheh. Star Wars Undercover Boss: Starkiller Base from Saturday Night Live.

Watching someone else create zen doodles. To (looped) chill music. It’s a thing.

And finally, The Onion has been covering the Olympics quite brilliantly on Instagram (my preferred channel) but here’s a little gem: “How Do Archers Resist Firing Arrows At Everyone In The Spectator Gallery?” Warning: Not for little kids.

Rebecca Angel was one of those kids that put the dragon book on top of her pile in the hopes that someone would say, "Hey, I'm into that stuff too!" Alas, she had to wait until she was an adult to find fellow geeks. Luckily, she married one and their kids are too. A music teacher by day, Rebecca is also a lover of tea, science literacy, funky tights, RPGs, anime, manga, comics, fantasy books and movies.
