Cue the Kermit flail! ABC has picked up the new TV series revival of the Muppets, the pilot for which was much talked about a little while ago.
The new series, the first picture from which can be seen above, reportedly received a standing ovation at the pilot’s presentation to network executives. Entertainment Weekly describes the show as:
…a contemporary, documentary-style show. For the first time ever, the series will explore the Muppets’ personal lives and relationships, both at home and at work, as well as romances, break-ups, achievements, disappointments, wants and desires–a more adult Muppet show, for kids of all ages. Bill Prady and Bob Kushell are co-writers and executive producers alongside Randall Einhorn and Bill Barretta.
It’s not what most Muppets fans probably had in mind when they envisioned a new TV series, but it’s certainly worth giving it the benefit of the doubt. Anything with the Muppets has a lot of potential going into it, so it just remains to be seen if the new show can realize that potential. With the Disney machine behind it, at least we know it won’t fail because of lack of marketing.
