Well dressed, well groomed, and well organized are things that are rarely associated with geeks. I admit I’m more often wearing an old (usually free) t-shirt and shorts. Whether I’m writing code, or writing articles, my comfort is my top priority, but there are times when we need to make an impression and that AOL shirt from the last COMDEX (circa 2003) won’t do. Marian Call: Yippee Ki Yay

Marian Call, my favorite geek songstress, has released a new holiday EP titled Yippee Ki Yay. Like most of Marian’s catalog, this release is an eclectic mix of tracks, eight in all, that emphasize her voice and witty writing style. The album opens with Marian’s acapella rendition of Ave Maria which I’ve had the privilege of hearing live. What follows is a delightful path through the beauty and comedy of Marian’s work.

Computers, Lights and Music Put to Evil Use: Halloween Lights Show Set to The Fox (What Does the Fox Say)

First of all, I’m sorry. I have a pair of 11 year-old boys in the house and that means I’ve heard “The Fox (What Does The Fox Say?)” by Ylvis roughly 8 million times. It’s on when their room is being cleaned, while they’re chillaxing, when they’re tormenting their older sister, even as a soundtrack when playing Call of Duty (something very incongruous about that one). I know how painful it can be, so I apologize in advance for inflicting the song on the GeekDad readership. Still, Halloween is approaching and this home has put on a pretty impressive light show. That it’s set to “The Fox (What Does the Fox Say)” is probably a big reason why it has over 1.3 million views (and counting). Once again, I’m sorry. Happy Halloween.
