Continue ReadingOver the weekend I finally managed to sneak in enough playtime to defeat the Elite Four in Pokémon Y and claim my rightful place as the Pokémon League Champion. In-between a few rounds of multiplayer battle and some Pokémon trading — we had to evolve those Haunters — the kids and I also took a few minutes to check out this great series retrospective from Nintendo.
Continue ReadingI get a lot of press releases from Nintendo. They hit my inbox nigh-weekly, generally touting some upcoming release or a bump in sales numbers. Still, yesterday’s announcement was different.
Continue ReadingI was really excited to get this game downloaded to my son’s Nintendo 3DS. I’ve been a fan of Mario since my parents bought our family the first Nintendo system when I was 6 years old (did I just age myself?) and we played the original Mario Bros. Thankfully the games have come a long way since I was a kid and I’m happy to say this game keeps in with the spirit of the characters and the storyline.
Continue ReadingThere’s something undeniably different about the latest chapter in the Pokémon saga. For a series that has, for some 15 years, defined itself by retelling the same story time and again with slightly adjusted characters, the fact that it’s a …

Continue ReadingSome ideas are destined to be. Just as the coming together of Lego, Star Wars and a video-game was written in the stars, LEGO Lord of the Rings has been looming on the horizon as inevitably as night following day. …

Continue ReadingBrave: The Video Game will be released this Summer alongside the film. Interestingly it’s currently slated for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, DS and Windows PC/MAC — nothing mentioned about 3DS or Vita at this stage.
Continue ReadingMy son had been saving up for Lego Batman 2, the latest in the Lego videogame series, and was working out whether he’d have enough money when the game lunches in June. A few calculations later and he looked downcast …
Continue ReadingAn unbreakable toy is wonderful thing, not least for its ability to break other toys. But a broken toy, as I’ve discovered over the first few years with young children, can be just as much fun as when it was …
Continue ReadingThough I even have to remind myself of this fact, Nintendo’s fourth quarter releases aren’t strictly limited to Zelda and Mario titles. While those games have rightly earned the lion’s share of attention from both gamers and reviewers, there are …
Continue ReadingHaving recently written about Ghost Trick and Solatorobo in glowing terms this week, I was happy to see them discounted in Amazon today (Ghost Trick is $12.59 and Solatorobo is $17.11). If Okamiden gets a similar discount I’ll be suspicious …

Continue ReadingIt’s not until you start to explain the different features of the 3DS that you realize how complicated this stuff is if you haven’t got a long history with gaming. As one console builds on features of the previous one, …
Continue ReadingAlthough Nintendo isn’t currently going with the “save the best till last” approach, what with Mario Kart 7 and Super Mario 3D Land hitting the system earlier than usual, it’s interesting to see that some of the best DS games …
Continue ReadingThough its predecessor Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions was favorably accepted by both gamers and comic fans, the recent sequel Spider-Man: Edge of Time has received somewhat mixed reviews. This title is actually available on the DS as well as the 3DS, …

Continue ReadingI’m always a little suspicious of TV tie-in videogame series. When these focus on children’s TV, history seems to be even more littered with missteps and failures. However, after being roundly impressed with the Dora and Diego games I’ve been …
