Zombie Dice Expansion Breathes New Life Into the Undead Dice Game

Tabletop Games

BrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaiiiinnnnnnnnsssssBrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaiiiinnnnnnnnsssssPerhaps one of the most exciting spur-of-the-moment party games to take its place on game tables in the past couple of years was Zombie Dice. The ultra-fun dice game took game conventions by storm and became the go-to while-you-wait game, taking its place before a game of Dominion, Power Grid, DnD, and others. And now, there’s an expansion to the game and I’m here to tell you that it’s very good.

As an expansion, Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature requires the Zombie Dice base game to play. Zombie Dice 2 brings three new dice into the mix, one for the variation “Santa Claus Meets the Zombies” and two for the “Big Summer Action Movie” play on the game.

To play “Santa Claus,” remove a single green die from the base game and replace it with the red expansion Santa die. This die is familiar in many ways, but has a couple of new abilities and a bonus, as well. Among the new die faces are a helmet and an energy drink. The helmet protects you, as a zombie, and allows you to take an additional shotgun blast for a total of four before your turn comes to an end. The energy drink gives the zombie player a caffeine-jolted kick in the decaying behind and enables you to catch some runners. After rolling an energy drink, you can convert footsteps on green dice to captured green brains. Both helmets and energy drink effects are good for the entirety of a single turn. Finally, on the red Santa die, there’s a single side with a double brain icon, which counts for two in the zombie race to acquire the most brains.

In the “Big Summer Action Movie” variant, remove two yellow dice and replace them with the white and pink colored dice from Zombie Dice 2. The white die represents our hunk and the pink die, his leading lady, the hottie. The hunk offers a chance at a side with two brains, but it also carries the threat of double shotgun blasts. The hottie has three sides with footprints (in high heels, no less), making her hard to devour. The catch is — if a hero or heroine’s brain has been captured by the zombie on a turn, a shotgun blast from either the hunk or the hottie on that roll (or any subsequent roll that turn) rescues the other from the zombie’s grasp.

For extra fun, remove two yellows and a green and play with all of the expansion dice at once in the “Direct-to-Video Sequel.”

We absolutely loved Zombie Dice 2 and played it many times a day, every day while on spring break. Despite the expansion being small – just three dice – it really adds a new dimension to the Zombie Dice game. We preferred the Santa Claus die because of the effects and the way it can change a game, but we ended up playing with all three dice more often than not.

Zombie Dice 2: Double Feature will be shambling into game stores later this month with a suggested retail price of $7.95.
