GeekDad Tabletop Review Template

Sample Tabletop Review Post Headline

NOTE: To use this template, copy the text below this line, and paste into the HTML tab (NOT the Visual tab) in WordPress—then you can switch back to Visual if you like.

Be sure to replace “(game title)” with the actual game title (in italics), and then fill in the rest.

——————

Start with a little flavor-like text, to give a hint at the theme and goal of the game.

<h2>What Is <em>(game title)</em>?</h2>

A paragraph describing the game in broad strokes, how many it plays, how long, and for what ages. Note here if theme or elements are inappropriate for kids. Don’t forget to italicize game titles (or place in single quotes in the Headline and Excerpt sections only).

Include with enough images you’ve taken to show components and the game at play. Remember, ratio is important (particularly for the featured image) and size is too: 1200 x 675 pixels at 72 dpi. Make the game look good and fun.

If it’s a Kickstarter Alert, or Reaping the Rewards, include the following html block at the bottom of the “What is (game title)” section:

<em>New to Kickstarter? <a href="https://geekdad.com/2014/06/crowdfunding-basics-primer/">Check out our crowdfunding primer</a>>.</em>

<h2><em>(game title)</em> Components</h2>

List the components in a bulletized list. Then go into a description of the quality, the artwork, and things like that.

The description of components, unless it’s a very small game, should be at least a couple of hundred words.

<h2>How to Play <em>(game title)</em></h2>

In this section, as in others, feel free to use the H3 tags for subheads. This can be things like: Setup, Mechanics, What to Do on Your Turn, etc.

Be sure to cover the basics without copying the rulebook. Interpret! This should be the biggest portion of the review (unless it’s a very simple game).

<h2>Why You Should Play <em>(game title)</em></h2>

You can also call this section The Verdict or something like that. This should be a thoughtful section where you inject opinion, saying what works and what doesn’t. This should be upwards of 400-600 words.

At the bottom of every game review, remember to add the following html block AND a disclosure if you received the game from a publisher for free.
