We Are Entertained - The Peanut Butter Falcon

This week was a barn burner. The boys had a rousing discussion about news from Disney and Apple, gave their opinions on The Spy and Late Nightand then dove headfirst into one of the best movies of the year, The Peanut Butter Falcon.

This week Chris is pleasantly surprised by the new Netflix miniseries The Spy. The surprise doesn’t come from anything particularly ground-breaking in the telling of the story but instead from the phenomenal performance of Sacha Baron Cohen. Cohen demonstrates considerable dramatic chops playing the role of Eli Cohen, Israel’s most famous Mossad agent, in this true-to-life adaptation of his rise to prominence in Syria leading up to the Six-Day War. Do yourself a favor and check it out!

Matt checked out Late Night, the story of a late night talk-show host who is struggling to remain current. Mindy Kaling is hired to spice things up and hijinks ensue. Matt enjoyed the film but had some real questions about a few plot points that didn’t sit quite right with him, particularly since Mindy Kaling herself wrote the screenplay. It gets a thumbs up but, strangely, also a warning that you need to stick through the first half of the movie for the payoff.

After a few months of lukewarm reactions to movies, it appears we’ve finally gotten to Oscar season. Both hosts really enjoyed The Peanut Butter Falcon and have a lot to say about the performances of Shia LaBeoufDakota Johnson, and (most outstanding of all) Zack Gottsagen. If you haven’t heard of this film it’s not likely your fault; it’s still in somewhat limited release, but it’s definitely worth the effort to find a showing and see it sooner rather than later.
