We Are Entertain

This week the boys fully expected to be blown away by The Goldfinch, it has the cast, the director, and the source material to be an immediate Oscar contender. Opinions are mixed, however, on how well it met that promise. Tune in and let us know what you think and whether or not we should be expecting to see The Goldfinch make a run during award season.

Chris kicks things off by continuing his romp through period piece spy movies. More a filmed stage production than a thriller this one receives solid reviews if you’re the kind of person who likes a slow burn. Matt is intrigued but we’re not sure it’s for everyone. Can a film “look English?” If so, that’s certainly how Chris feels about this one. Maybe a little pre-gaming for Downton Abbey

Matt hits us with a powerful dose of nostalgia as he gets caught up with The Walking Dead which, apparently is still in production. Who knew? It turns out the joke’s on us, according to us the newest season is fantastic. It has just dropped on Netflix and Matt insists that it’s worth diving back in if you’ve taken a break (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?). Take a read through Wikipedia and find out what you’ve missed and tune in so you can let Chris know whether or not it’s really worth picking back up.

Finally the boys dig into The Goldfinch. It’s fair to say that a movie based on a Pulitzer Prize winning novel has a lot to live up to. We’re not sure it does the job but without spoiling anything it’s entirely fair to say you need to make sure to take a potty break before this one kicks off. This is a long movie and feels much longer than its advertised 2:29 runtime. Even at two-and-a-half hours it still feels like there’s so much story missing and we can’t help but admit there are nooks and crannies we would have loved to dive into that the film breezes through. We really expected this one to be nominated for a ton of awards before we saw it but now we’re pretty doubtful. Did you see it? What do you think?
