Viper releases a great 7.1 surround gaming headset for hardcore gamers looking for an aural edge, the new V370!
Initial Thoughts
Taking the Viper V370 out of the box, my first impressions are that the new Viper headset is well made and stout. The earcups are a more angular and less rounded than many of its competitors, giving it a more space-age look. The lights on either side add to that effect as well. One thing I had not seen before is that the boom mic flips up and hides away into the body of the V370, which is nice because I never seem to be comfortable with where I adjust my mic when I do not need it. The overall look of the V370 may be a bit bulky, but it packs a lot of technology into the frame. The feel is of sturdy ABS plastic, but plastic never the less, with a flat matte black coating. The cord is a nice thick red and black braid and is beefier than most of the headsets I have tried, which is great because flimsy cords give me anxiety. The package also includes a string bag and an extra pair of earcups, which is a fabulous addition!
Setup and Testing
The V370 uses a USB connection, so PC gamers need only apply. Once you do plug it in it takes a few seconds to install drivers in Windows 10. There is also software that Viper offers to get the most out of the V370 that you can download from the website (or just click here).
After plug-in and installation, I decided to fire up a game that really needed a great sound response which I recently reviewed, Blair Witch. Playing Blair Witch, sound and more importantly spatial sound is essential to your survival. Being able to hear a sound building and the direction it is moving toward is a critical part of the gameplay. Not to mention knowing where your trusty dog Bullet is at any point.
The volume and clarity of the V370 were excellent, and what I liked the most was the Ultra Bass response. I play a lot of shooters and appreciate a good boom. Horror games are another staple of mine, and most of the sound FX and music are in minor keys that really benefit by having a good bass response. While doing a test I was able to hear sound all the way to about 27hz, which is great for a pair of headphones.
Along with gaming, I tried several 3D audio experiences with Stephen King’s The Mist being my favorite. The experience was nothing short of amazing. Amazing highs and lows and incredible spatial sound.

Final Thoughts
The Viper V370 is available for $69.99 and is a great buy at that price. You get noise cancellation, 7.1 surround sound, RGB lighting, and great sound and microphone. If you are a gamer looking for a great headset, this should be on your radar. If you are a parent looking to impress your young gamer, this may be a great birthday or Christmas gift!
