If you are an entrepreneur or even just someone like me who has a regular 9-to-5 job but does a lot of side activities, The Balance Point by Jordan Ring is a book worth checking out.
Jordan Ring is an author who enjoys living the entrepreneurial lifestyle, so as you might imagine, he has written a few books along those lines:
Jordan’s self-professed goal in life is to help people live a life of less talk and more action. Jordan is also the book marketing and launch guru for clients over at his second home, Archangel Ink. And if that wasn’t enough, Jordan is also a freelance copywriter, writing coach, and consultant.
Ok, so Jordan Ring likes writing independently and helping others live an entrepreneurial lifestyle, but does he really get what it takes to be truly creative and can he distill that information down effectively? The following quote from his latest book The Balance Point convinced me he was the real deal:
“Reading is one of the most powerful ways to grow your mind and increase your capacity to create. We can learn how to do things via a quick video, but diving deeper is what causes our brains to engage, and this deep engagement in turn sparks new creativity. We don’t know what we don’t know, and reading books often gives us answers to questions we didn’t know we needed to ask.”

Anyone who has ever tried to embark on a significant creative project knows that reading is one of the best things you can do to get the creative juices flowing. It’s nice to see that someone like Jordan Ring, who is focusing on entrepreneurial success, also sees the extreme value in taking the time to read.
The Balance Point by Jordan Ring is a book all about how to find balance in your life while navigating a very challenging and chaotic career environment. The book is very much focused on entrepreneurs, but in reality, the guidance and information presented is good for anyone struggling with how to balance the work/home portion of their lives. I firmly fit into that camp as I have a very regular day job, but I also engage in a lot of side projections and activities outside of my main career (writing for GeekDad being just one example). Just this morning I was in the car with my adult daughter who made a comment that she is struggling with how to balance her job with everything else she wants to do and said that she thinks that is a pretty common adult thing to struggle with. Yes it is.
The Balance Point has eleven main chapters with each chapter addressing one major aspect of finding balance between your professional life and your personal life:
One thing that I think sets this book apart from so many of the other “self help/motivational” books is that Jordan has interwoven the story of a fictional character named Andrew with the eleven topic above and uses this character and his situations to drive home important aspects of the work/home balance. You can tell when reading about Andrew that Jordan Ring is speaking from experience when it comes to these challenges. Some people are really good at putting words to paper, but it is rare to find an author that has a significant amount of knowledge and experience with a particular topic and also has the gift of being able to communicate and share that information effectively.
The Balance Point is very much written for the entrepreneur, but I would use that term in its widest sense. Many of us who have regular jobs also have side projects and even side jobs that require a significant amount of time and effort. Guess what; balancing all of those things can be just as hard as going solo with your career. So, yes, this book applies to anyone who juggles multiple creative endeavors. What probably struck me most when reading The Balance Point was the following quote:
“Stamping out fires is a lot of fun, but it is only putting things back to the way they were.”
—W. Edwards Deming
It is so easy to caught in the trap of “just keeping up” and then patting yourself on the back at the end of the day when doing so. But the key to success is being proactive, and that means more than just keeping your head above water. Finding your own personal “balance point” is what enables you to take that extra step and start getting ahead with respect to your professional and personal goals. If any of this rings true for you then you will definitely get something out of picking up and reading The Balance Point.
The Balance Point was just released on both Kindle and paperback formats on September 24th and is on sale for just $3.99 in the Kindle format for just a few more days.
Disclaimer: I was provided a digital copy of The Balance Point for the purpose of this review, but Jordan Ring had no input into the review content.
