How are they going to film this?

Umbrella Academy: Hotel Oblivion # 7

Writer: Gerard Way Artist: Gabriel Ba Colorist: Nick Filardi Cover Artist: Gabriel Ba

I have to tell you, this final round of weirdness (and its heaps of villains) has indeed left me wondering about Way′s capacity to sort it all out.

Will he?

Hotel Oblivion, as a concept, really reminds me of two things: the creepy Hotel California of the song (probably on purpose) and the mathematical problem of an infinite hotel, with an infinite number of rooms, where you need to keep adding guests—only that, in this case, they are prisoners.

And there are so many.

Perseus has a grudge, Minerva wants revenge, a mad doctor wants to eat the city… and this is where I started losing track of all the weird villains because they seem to largely exist in shadows and paper tigers.

What I noticed, though, is that Fate has more confidence in her power than ever before, and that her brothers trust her. Also, they have confidence in Number 1. Family bonding, finally!

What we have enjoyed about the TV show, though, is something the comic lacks: a deepening of each character and their relations—strained and fragile, as all family relationships really are. Something that made us care. Here, we only have curiosity to move the plot along.

I know Gerard Way is doing the “let′s do the mad scenes first, and then see if we can tie up the plot later” scheme, but everything will surely be complicated further in the next installment, Reunion. Are we going to be glad after reading it, or will it fail us miserably?
