The new Turtle Beach Recon 70 wired gaming headset provides crystal clear sound, comfort, and flexibility across numerous gaming platforms, all for the reasonable price of $39.95.

Overview of the Turtle Beach Recon 70 Gaming Headset

Recon 70 gaming headset is labeled as designed for the Xbox One but don’t let that fool you. The Recon 70 works well on any number of gaming devices, from consoles to mobile phones. On each one, it produced clear sound with a nice base, adding to the gaming experience, but it also transmitted the spoken word well even in non-gaming calls, such as through Facebook Messenger.

And despite the use over several hours, the Recon 70 remained light and comfortable. It’s synthetic leather over foam pads kept my ears in comfort, as well as providing a noise canceling function.

Testing the Turtle Beach Recon 70 Gaming Headset:

X-Box 1:
The gaming headset was designed for use with the Xbox and it does the job well. We ran it with Grand Theft Auto (because, why not?) Voices and sound effects in the game came through clearly and the noise-canceling properties made the game more immersive.

PC Gaming Desktop:
My youngest daughter used the gaming headset while playing Wizard 101, an MMORPG that she’s been enjoying for almost a decade. Having just purchased a custom-built gaming desktop, she was thrilled to test a gaming headset. She remained thrilled after testing it, particularly happy with the rich sound and the ability of the headphones to keep her more focused on the game and block out extraneous noise. (Note: It made it difficult to call her out of her room for dinner, though. 🙂

We did have to plug the Turtle Beach Recon into a splitter in order to make it compatible with the desktop but that’s an easy and inexpensive matter.

Gaming Laptop:

My son is the serious gamer in the household and, as such, it became difficult to pry the Recon 70 away from him after he tested it. HIs first reaction was a shouted “Omigod, I love the base!” That was quickly followed by gushing over the surround sound effect he noticed while playing Skyrim. He noted that he could tell when and where each person moved by sound alone.

MacBook Air:
I’ve tried numerous headphones and earbuds for my 2014 MacBook Air but, thus far, only more expensive brands have come close to the comfort and quality that I need, as I’m on the computer hours each day, writing, and use music as my background to block out the world.

The Recon 70 headset quickly blew what I’ve tried before out of the water. It kept out household noise well, allowing me to ignore, oh, say, phones ringing and various calls of “Mom.” And, even after a few hours, they remained comfortable to wear.

I tested the microphone not via a game but on a Facebook Messenger call with my writing critique partners. Again, I’ve tried numerous microphones over the years, but the Recon 70 produced the clearest transmission of my voice to the others. I had no compatibility issues, simply plugging them into my microphone jack.

Nintendo Switch:

The Recon 70 is also compatible with the Nintendo Switch, simply by plugging it into the device. I had fun playing Let’s Go: Eevee!

Mobile Phone:

We plugged the gaming headset into my son’s Samsung Galaxy 9+ and he tested the sound with Elder Scrolls: Blades mobile game. Again, the same excellent results.
