The board game (and board game-related!) news that caught our attention for the week ending May 10, 2019.
Gaming News
- The ever-popular game Scythe is getting a “the final planned product”: a modular board. According to Stonemaier’s website, the product “includes a double-sided game board, 4 double-sided tiles, and several other components.” Preorders for it will be open on the site from May 29-June 1. Scythe is our featured image this week.
- TheOp is bringing the roll-and-write title Dungeon Academy to the US market. The game is for 1–6 players and is available now.
- Dire Wolf Digital is bringing their mobile and platform-based CCG to the tabletop with the pending release of Eternal: Chronicles of the Throne. The IRL version of the game will switch it from a CCG to a deckbuilder. The game is due out in August.
- Iello has announced the release of Zombie Kidz Revolution, a cooperative game about fighting zombies. The rulebook for the game is online, and the game should be in your FLGS now. (Watch for an upcoming review from Jonathan Liu.)
- Some day, Looney Labs will run out of ideas and licensed properties to turn into Fluxx expansions, but that day is not today. Star Trek: DS9 Fluxx lets you collect Gold-Pressed Latinum while avoiding the Jem’Hadar.
- AEG is releasing new expansions to two of its popular titles. Thunderstone Quest: Ripple in Time, scheduled for a June release, was originally included in last year’s Kickstarter campaign. Meanwhile, The Captain Is Dead: Dangerous Planet adds a third stand-alone installment to the cooperative game series.
- Shards of Infinity, the follow-up to the deckbuilder Ascension, is now available digitally as an app.
- Gen Con will be sponsoring a series of “Pop-up Gen Con” events, which is described as “a new retail initiative bringing the convention experience to local game stores across the United States.” During Gen Con in August, local game stores will be provided with pre-release copies of new games, which will allow stores and their customers to see and play these games, not to mention order them, prior to their wide release.
