John Wick Vol. 1

Writer: Greg Pack

Colors: inlight Studio
Letters: Tom Napolitano
Cover Artist: Giovanni Valletta.

As Greg Pack will tell you in this interview, John Wick is a total mystery. We only catch glimpses about his past in the two movies released, and we only know what he wants us to know, nothing more. This fact provides Pack with the opportunity to explore, to dive in and wonder: who was John Wick, really? Why does he do what he does?

The dialogues between killer and would-be-killed are really not bad; they are not brilliant, but they don′t miss a beat and are as fast-paced as everything in John Wick′s life.

Here he is portrayed as a freelancer, someone who is just visiting and is not really into the Book of Rules, not yet. Still, when fate draws him to the men that destroyed his village in Mexico all those years ago, it is only a matter of time before John Wick disposes of them once and for all.

That is, until Calamity arrives.

Now, I get the idea of the ruthless psycho killer who will escalate everything just for the heck of it. But I didn′t buy her, not at all: she is callous, slow, has no inflection in her voice, and is drawn in a totally generic way. Maria, albeit drawn in the same fashion, is a bit more interesting in character. As for John Wick: I could watch him all day, and, probably, so could you.

John Wick Vol.1 was released April 24th, 2019.
