Last Friday, Detective Pikachu arrived in theaters, proving that there’s a right way to bring a beloved video game character to feature-length life. (Sorry, Sonic.) To coincide with the film’s arrival, The Pokémon Company also released a number of Detective Pikachu Case Files, specially-packaged products for the wildly popular Pokémon TCG that capture the look and feel of Ryme City.

Featuring a Detective Pikachu promo card and metallic coin, the Detective Pikachu Case File is the perfect introduction for fans of the trading card game to the CGI world of the motion picture. A step up from Detective Pikachu’s own case file, this bigger box includes a foil promo card and a matching oversized card, both featuring the ferocious CGI Charizard-GX. If you’re more of a Psychic-type player, the Mewtwo-GX Case File offering may be more enticing. Pokémon TCG: Detective Pikachu Greninja-GX Case File

Being that my house is firmly Team Froakie, our favorite of the bunch was the Greninja-GX Case File. It comes with the expected Greninja-GX foil and oversized cards, two Pokémon TCG boosters, and the code card for the Pokémon TCG Online. But it also ups the proverbial ante with five Detective Pikachu booster packs and a special Greninja pin.
There are other Detective Pikachu TCG products available—such as the Collector Chest and Movie Binder—that are all sure to please even your pickiest Pokémon Masters. The kids and I really enjoyed opening up the products and adding some of Ryme City’s unique flavor to our favorite decks.
Our only real disappointment was that the Detective Pikachu boosters only contain four cards. The other included boosters (each from the recent Sun & Moon series and its expansions) are all standard 10-packs, though, and we did get a couple of nice pick-ups from them, so that’s an easy enough misstep to forgive.
Whether you’re a serious or casual player or just a card collector, these new Detective Pikachu products are fun, reasonably priced, and available now at your favorite online or brick-and-mortar destinations.
