2019 Spiel des Jahres Nominees Announced

Gaming Tabletop Games

The prestigious Spiel des Jahres, or German Game of the Year award, nominees were announced earlier this week. The three nominees for the main Spiel award are Just One by Ludovic Roudy and Bruno Sautter, LAMA by Reiner Knizia, and Werwörter (Werewords) by Ted Alspach. The Spiel des Jahres award is aimed at “family” gamers, and part of its goal is to highlight games that might be of interest to those not heavily into the hobby.

Also announced are the nominees for the Kennerspeil des Jahres, which is a category designed to recognize more complex games aimed at experienced gamers. The nominees are Carpe Diem by Stefan Feld, Detective by Ignacy Trzewiczek, and Wingspan by Elizabeth Hargrave, which is also GeekDad Approved.

The final category is the Kinderspiel des Jahres, which are children’s games and are decided by a separate jury. This year’s nominees are Fabulantica by Marco Teubner, Go Gecko Go! by Jürgen Adams, and Tal der Wikinger by Marie and Wilfried Fort.

The winners will be announced on June 24.
