WCP: ‘Hellboy’ (2019) Review

Podcasts

Like it or not, Hellboy 2.0 is here.

Jake + Mitch breakdown what worked and didn’t work in the over-stuffed re-boot, Hellboy.  With a deep love for the comics, Jake had high hopes.  Mitch, not so much…maybe the staggeringly low Rotten Tomatoes score has something to do with it.  But there’s more…

– In the shadow of Guillermo del Toro, did this movie stand a chance?
– Should we appreciate the home-run swing this movie took?
– Will we see David Harbour don the horns and chops again?

Plus, a quick philosophical turn towards the societal affects of social media, and why Rotten Tomatoes is just plain dumb.

  1. Jake and Mitch, I just listened to the James Gunn episode. Yes, I know I am behind by several episodes, but I will be catching up over the next week. I was so excited when you mentioned me in your shout outs (Jeff C in OKC) that I might have uttered a colorful word within earshot of my 12 year old, think Holy Guacamole. In the interest of giving other people a shot at getting their own shout out on the podcast and a potentially embarrassing moment, I thought I would post here about the problem I had just getting a review for the podcast posted through the Apple Podcasts app. I tried several times to post before the one that was actually posted. Every time I tried to post a review through the app, it just wouldn’t post, but it wouldn’t give me an error message. Eventually I looked online and found out that you have to pick a reviewer name that isn’t already in use, which seems very obvious, but as I said the app wasn’t giving me any error messages at all, let alone telling me that the reviewer name was already in use. I had to try several times to get a name that wasn’t already in use. I am relatively new to podcasts and had never done a review before, so if any of the other people out there are in the same boat, hopefully they can learn from my mistake. I also just tried to update my review in the app to give out the same info that I am posting here, but it isn’t updating. I am not on the Twitters, there is something about the smell of a dumpster fire that is off putting to me, but if I do get on there at some point, I will certainly follow you guys.
