Reading Time: 2 minutes
Shake off the cobwebs and open the windows to let some fresh air in—it’s finally spring! These three new picture books, each featuring casts of animals packed with personality, are as bright and colorful as the flowers now brightening up the outdoors. These hilarious books are sure to put a spring in your kids’ steps and lift those winter blues just as brightly as bursts of sunshine.
Where do the forest animals like to go on vacation? Camping, like us—but in the great indoors! They pack up and get ready for a week of no peace and quiet, filled with electronics and loud music and air conditioning. Sweet, sweet air conditioning. But like the family camping trips we’ve all been on, there comes a moment when everyone is just ready to go home. The animals’ antics not only get guffaws, but the little details hidden in the illustrations are just as funny.

Science smiles might be the best smiles. This picture book, which couldn’t be better suited to read aloud, is the kind of sneaky STEM that’s so much fun kids won’t realize they’re learning something. The titular caterpillar (say that three times fast) is in a hurry to turn into a butterfly, but it’s not something you can rush. Seeing the caterpillar talk himself through metamorphosis teaches patience and resilience, something readers of all ages need—even grownups.

We dare you to keep a straight face when reading this hilarious picture book out loud. A bare little bear has finished his bath, and his exasperated dad just wants him to put some clothes on. But it’s still time to play! This rhyming romp is absolutely one of those picture books your kids will ask you to read night after night.
